Forum changes over the past few years

Post by thecaretaker » Mon, 17th Jul 2017, 6:38am

There was a time when the forums were busier in the evenings than during the day. I notice visitor numbers are down to 25-28 over weekends. Is this a taster of how quiet it will be over the 6 week school break?

Most visits are now during working hours, around 70-80 users. That is down from 100-120 users a day few years ago.

We used to run quizzes and competitions (Anybody remember them?).

The forum isn't only about work and wondered if you had any ideas to encourage users to visit more often out of work hours?

All work and no play etc. I don't want the forum to become dull, yes it should have a serious side, but I want to regain the fun and enjoyment that used to emanate from reading the posts. So.... Any ideas?

Or with social media and apps, have forums had their day?

It works for me as it is CT. I use it throughout the week constantly. Friday evening to Monday morning is my time and stay away from the computer and iPad on purpose as it is what I do most of the week.

I agree 4pm fri to 7.30am mon is my time. I don't want to think about work at all.
Even when people email or text me i do not reply unless it's urgent.
I'm not saying let's go kill all the stupid people.... I'm just saying let's remove all the warning labels and let the problem sort it self out.

I am the opposite I view the forums between shifts before or after work and at weekends as for a number of reasons forums are blocked at our school.

I live mostly alone so its company for me but I can understand people with young families and busy lives making the most of quality time away from work.

Check various times of the day. Don't always sign in. Maybe if site never signed you out we would post something.
Has for weekend. Well from April to November. Most weekends we are at our static. Do still check. But it's mine and wife's time from our work.
But what ever the reasons are for the falling numbers. Don't you ever think of closing the site.
It's been a great help from first registering. And still is.

I still run the forum quiz.

You'll need to register on the quiz site, but we do ask that you use the same username so that we know who you are from here, that's all. [Like.png]

I think it's great as it is. Like some of the other replies i don't view at the weekends as it's my time. Much of my role is office based so i tend to nip in here when i've got a drink or need a break. This has become my go-to place for info, it's an amazingly valuable resource to me, and i guess to many of us. It doesn't need to to change what it offers in my opinion [Hug.png]
My wife asked him to pick up a loaf of bread and, if they had eggs, to get a dozen. I came home with a dozen loaves of bread.

I honestly think that the drop in posts over the summer/weekends stem from the fact that most of us aren't surrounded by people that cause problems so to speak.

During the holidays most of us are left alone to get on with it, and if like my school, very few people come in, you don't encounter many problems, therefore causing less of a need for "help or advice" on the forums.

I check regularly, but do tend to get logged out each time I sign in, so actually look at the site more than I sign in. Whereas I also post regularly on the Bristol City FC forum, that also keeps me signed in. At this time of of the year though, gearing up for the new football season there is a lot more on there to contribute to. There are also a lot more users on there, so with that come more topics. There are times when I don't post on there for a while, but post quite a bit on here. It's all swings and roundabouts.
