School email

Post by Dennis The menace » Fri, 7th Jul 2017, 9:13pm

Just been onto my works email. Two emails been opened and it's not by me. I had 7 sent since 3pm. 3 junk and 4 private. Two showing opened. Now I have never given my password to any member of staff. So who's snooping. Just be careful everyone maybe just maybe it's not has secure has you think. Changed password. Any ideas of tracking without asking questions.

Your ICT technician is likely to know everyone`s passwords. I would think that the school techie & those at County Hall could get into any school accounts if it was felt necessary.

IF the system allows you to, change your pass word.

When we all registered for our school login accounts in the small print that no one usually reads it states that the account is the property of the LEA and that they can monitor and track all emails and websites visited by the account user without prior notice.

I know of one account user terminated suddenly last year allegedly because of his/her computer usage history.

I have also mentioned to staff that all computer usage is monitored but staff say “they can’t do that”…

I'm sure they can scan your emails without actually opening them so that does sound suspect, as mentioned above change your password if you can.

I can back door so to speak all work computer usage including school email. It's all in the policy staff have to sign. Never needed to with staff. Had to with several pupil accounts with parent permission. Has made me realise nothing is secure.

Sent a strong mail to head and our IT department. Asking for confirmation that our mails are scanned and copying in every member of staff. Checked out our terms of agreement and it does not say anyone will scan mails. Response from head. Not aware of it. IT guy says a random check of mails get scanned for breach of security. But they should not show as been opened. Thankfully all my mails are work related. Use my private one for moans. [Wink.png]
Has for changing password I did. But what's the point if they still get checked. IT guy did say suspicious activity had been noted on our systems though.

The IT Technician will be able to get into your email account without the use of a password. They can also read your emails and then mark them as 'unread' afterwards. It sounds to me like they may have read them and then forgotten to mark them as unread. Although, this doesn't mean that they're guilty, it could be anyone with access to the school database/servers.

They can look at or read whatever they like. It's all just work after all.
