New vaccine and who gets it
Today is the good news that another vaccine has been approved and will be in use next week. One point raised was when will key workers get it? A BBC article quotes professor Wei shen Kim, chairman of the joint committee on vaccination and immunisation who says Teachers over 50 will be eligible for the vaccine in the first phase. I wonder if he meant any school staff over 50? I would be interested to know if anyone out there hears anything from their school

I'm sorry, but I doubt it will mean the support menials, certainly wouldn't include them in my old school.I wonder if he meant any school staff over 50?
Likewise, the Doctors and Nurses should get it, but the support staff, cleaners, volunteers who help out in my non-so local hospital, bottom of the queue I would imagine.

Re: New vaccine and who gets it
A report today says there are 500,000 doses of the vaccine ready to go. This is not even going to scratch the surface. It is also reported that the gap between doses is being increased from three weeks to three months. It remains to be seen how this immunization programme pans out. But as things stand, I cannot for the life of me see how this is going to be completed in a calendar year unless the pace is picked up massively.

You might find out about yourself on the online vaccine calculator
Mine says: Based on your profile, there are between 12,305,865 and 18,074,125 people in front of you in the queue for a COVID vaccine across the UK.
Given a vaccination rate of 1,000,000 a week and an uptake of 70.6%, you should expect to receive your vaccine between 26/03/2021 and 06/05/2021.

There was some outrage the other week because back office/senior management in the NHS who never come within a mile of a patient were getting jabs before the front line staff so I don't expect schools will be any different.

Re: New vaccine and who gets it
I am calculated to get my first shot by mid May & the second in June. This is based on a 70% take up rate. I hope that the take up rate will be more than that or I am not confident that we will be able to break the grip of the virus.
