Killing tree roots?

We have acquired some small saplings growing between the wall and the walkways. I know we should dig them up to remove the roots, but it isn't really practical to do that as they're fairly well established.
I've seen a lot of chemicals which claim to be able to kill off such trees but reviews would suggest they're not as reliable as the claims suggest, so I was hoping one of you guys might have experience of this?

Tordon, copper nails or diesel. Tordon first choice.

Tordon is now discontinued due to H&S, and pretty difficult to get hold of. Roundup Tree Stump & Root Killer is probably your best bet these days.

Thank you. I had never even heard of this before, but reading about it, it seems to be a very handy chemical.
Nigh on impossible to buy though, the only place I found with it in stock is charging a ridiculous amount for a fairly small container.

Oh ok I guess you dont have a outside source that comes in and checks your trees then and does a risk assessment to say that they are safe -Confused.png- -Confused.png-

Re: Killing tree roots?

Copper roofing nails (you'd need at least 20 for a small tree 10" dia, just bang them in around the middle of a stump or into the side of the tree in thin band)

Roundup Root and Stump killer usually does the trick with a few applications. Its pretty bad for the environment though.

You should have an external Tree survey and a 5 year plan of works, its not as easy as just looking and saying yes that tree is ok!!
