A lot of you may not know the name but Rick Jolly was a surgeon with the Royal Navy and a rank of captain and served in the Falklands war of 1982 with a team of medical staff. he was the only service personale thought to have been honoured by both sides for his services to the injured.

He apparently saved the lives of every English service man he treated and was awarded an OBE for his services during the conflict, i never meet him but he was well known amongst us at the time and his reputation was very reassuring if you were injured, R.I.P. Captain Jolly as there are an awful lot of guys here today who would not have been if you were not there.

What a bloke, I had read about him before but was unaware he had died which is a shame because the media love to tell us when some celebrity has died and I think people like him and others that have made a difference should be the ones we celebrate.

I'm almost ashamed to say I’ve never heard of him before so googled his name, what a remarkable and dedicated man he truly was…

RIP Sir.
