Re: Council Tax Bill from over 10 years ago

Thankyou everyone for your help.
I never received a tenancy agreement during my time living in the property.
Last year when I received the council tax bill the school only then provided a tenancy agreement which wasn't signed by myself!!!
During the whole time living there I was never sent bills or reminders to pay.

It's possible that ignorance is no excuse, unfortunately.

As someone else stated, by moving into the property it will more than likely be seen as acceptance of a tenancy. Therfore what ever you have recieved in retrospect will be valid. IF that tenancy makes no mention of C.TAX, then i dare say its presumed you would be paying it. in that instance you would be liable to pay it back but i would also presume you would have a case against the school and you could take them to small claims for some of the money. But that would be a secondary/seperate fight which again you may not win

Usually when you move into a house it is your responsibility to inform the council of your details so that the tax can be applied to you unfortunately
