Went on the council Legionella course, the guy in charge is adamant that every school does the checks this way.
There was no room for negotiate. If you don't do the readings by the book, then run the risk of being investigated. Caretakers have been fired for not following procedure.

Wow, no choice then. Its good they take legionella seriously but its still sounds like overkill.

We / I undertake our own tests - being frank you are not water testing but are testing the temperature of the water.

Monthly tests need to be done on the taps that are nearest the water supply and those at the end of the line. In my case that's 4 classrooms and the kitchen.

So I test
Hot
Cold
and hot prior to the TMV

I then do weekly tests on hot & cold points 2 per week

Once a year we have a plumber come in and test all the TMV points within the building isolating all the TMV by switch off the cold to check that they switch off.

Water samples are taken once a year by a professional company
