Getting rid of pests the natural way

Written by trout39843

There are many pests around our schools and in taking care of them we must consider our environment, the staff and pupils and yourself. There are many natural oils, spices and other things to deter or eradicate many pests.

These are just a few suggestions you might like to try.

Ants
If ants are infesting your place you can always spray a vinegar and water solution (1 part water to 2 parts vinegar) around where they are running. They do not like the smell and it masks the pheromones they lay down to follow the trail. Without the pheromones ants are unable to communicate with each other.

Not only will white vinegar confuse them, straight undiluted vinegar will send them to ant heaven. By pouring a little on/in their nest will keep them away and kill the nest.

If vinegar is not available then use baby powder to sprinkle on the nest. It will clog their lungs and send them to a better resting place.
These suggestions also work well for many little crawling critters (cockroaches, wood lice, spiders, etc.)

If bigger critters are around (rats, mice squirrels and such) then you have to get more creative. They have a superior sense of smell, rats especially.

These critters cannot stand the smell of pepper or anything very spicy. To mix up a batch of repellent try the following.
  1. Mix cayenne pepper or chilli flakes with water
  2. Heat the mixture vigorously to infuse the chilli
  3. Allow to cool – the longer you leave it, the more potent the chilli will be
  4. If you used chilli flakes, sieve them out
  5. Add a little castille soap (which is biodegradable)
  6. Pour into a spray bottle
  7. Apply liberally to areas where you know they frequent
Oils

The use of oils in their pure form are smells that deter all basic critters. Peppermint oil, citronella and eucalyptus oil soaked in a cotton ball and placed near where they are will keep them away. Making a spray of 10 to 20 drops of Peppermint oil to 2 cups of water and sprayed around your windows will deter most flying insects including mosquitos.

There are many natural things you can use. These are just a few.
