I was in discussion with a colleague the other day and he was almost bragging about the Generation Z (25 - 40 year old) and how much more advanced they were over my generation (I'm 62 next birthday). I listened for a few minutes on how much more cleverer they were and that they were able to keep up with technology better. I stopped him at the point that he started talking about modern cars to give him this pearl of wisdom.
When I was his age, my car owners manual gave instructions on how to change the oil and oil filter, set the sparkplug gaps, set the gap on the distributor points, adjust the timing and adjust the valves... Now the owners manual gives instructions on how to start the car, apply the handbrake, tune the radio and NOT TO DRINK THE BATTERY ACID!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enough said.
Is the Millenial Generation more advanced than the Baby Boomers?

It's tricky because to me it's all just different. We're constantly advancing and there are so many bits of lost information and skills as time goes on and becomes redundant.
I would probably agree that they are more advanced but I wouldn't say that that makes them better.

Possibly more advanced in certain areas and qualifications, but 100% less so when it comes to common sense and ability to just get on with the job without various conditions and support being available.
i'm going to need a bigger bucket!

I think the Millennial generation have been brought up with technology, my son when he was 4 could program the video recorder to record in advance without reading any instructions. When I installed security cabinets for iPads in our School Early Years Centre, I thought they would be wasted on 3 or 4-year-olds. l was however proved wrong as the children took to it like ducks to water.
Us oldies no doubt were more advanced than our parents in certain areas, although thinking about it my dad could do anything, although computers baffled him?

Children are increasingly asked to do more advanced things in education and this continues throughout education.
Tech has got simpler and more intuitive as the years go by requiring less advanced skills to operate.
I think it has more to do with familiarity than advanced skills in the day to day.
Industry has definitely got more complex, with new industries appearing and the old ones making leaps in complexity requiring similar leaps in all things from maintenance to construction and production.
The regulations have changed and navigating them is harder than before, there are never fewer regulations.
Car manuals have been dumbed down to reflect H and S legislation and the fact theres a really limited number of things a car owner can do to thier car now.
My first car was a beetle with points and a coil, everything else including the gauges was mechanical. Well not lights.
My current car a Seat needs a box to take readings etc if I want to diagnose faults or clear them once fixed.
I imagine that the complexity to a customer will decrease but the cars themselves get more complex as the years go by.

I doubt people have become more clever over the last few decades, children are brought up with this technology now and it is a reflection of changing times and the types of jobs around have shifted hugely in recent history. People develop the skills they need for employment, there are not many jobs now in this country where some degree of computer literacy isn't required.
