Possible new PC
Well, Mrs trout said I can get a new PC.
I am currently running a win. 7 desktop (I like them) w/4GBram, 500GB hdd with 2 partitions (250GB ea), and a Gforce vid card.
I do some gaming and videos and infonet so I'm thinking at least a 2TB SSD storage w/512 Hdd for operating system. Must have a DVD RW and card reader.
Been looking on line and can't find one I like. I mean, we're talking around £1,000 w/printer I got to spend. I been finding ones w/Win 10 and 11, not really worried about upgrading the O/S. I don't need the KB, monitor and mouse as I got very good ones.
Any suggestions brothers and sisters to get the most bang for my buck

Re: Possible new PC
Hi trout,
Worth looking at a barebones bundle or motherboard bundle from companies like Novatech or similar.
You keep your existing mouse/keyboard/monitor or even your existing optical drive and printer and then you can up the spec a bit.
For speed defiantly worth the Solid State Drives, or even better the M2 drives,
Most of these bundles are customisable as well so can can change the options on each of the items.

RED ALERT.............
.....but Sir, that does mean changing the light bulb!

I've bought computer components in the past from https://www.ebuyer.com/
I've just checked and they have pre-built bare bones systems in their Black Friday sale, might be something there in your price range?

I would put operating system on SSD not HDD, for faster booting times.

One SSD for storage, one SSD for OS.
Beware- graphics cards are incredibly expensive at the moment due to a global chip shortage.
Get at least 16GB RAM, and don't cheap out on a power supply.

Normal HD's are relatively cheap now so using one for storage and backup is good if you are on a tight budget.
For serious gamers M2 SSD’s are faster than normal SSD’s -Thumb_up-

I've used this company before https://www.awd-it.co.uk/ for custom built computers.
I'd go for a 512gb M.2 nvme drive for the operating system, then if you want the extra 2tb storage it's likely to be cheapest to buy a 2tb sata ssd and fit it yourself.
As has been mentioned, there is a big graphics card shortage at the moment, most going for double their rrp so you are going to pay over the odds for that.

Re: Possible new PC
No doubt you've read there is a worldwide chip shortage causing the inflated prices, I also read last week there is a Cod shortage -Shock.png-
Looks like the cost of fish and chips will be rising as well now -Big grin.png- -Scared.png-
My son is a big computer gamer, his system is water cooled and overclocked. He recently bought a new graphics card but refused to tell me how much it cost. He still has both arms and legs so the cost must have been manageable? -Fever.png-
