Spotted on my bird bath this evening
Okay, just having my tea when I glanced out the patio doors to see a large blur on my bird bath in the back garden.
Okay, so I didn't have my glasses on. Found them, look again, a Thrush? Naw, too big. Grabbed camera, thankfully it already had a zoom lens on and looked again.
Oh boy!
Apologies for the slightly fuzzy appearance, these were taken from within the house, through two pairs of double glazed doors! It's a Raptor, that much I know, but not 100% which bird of prey it is. As yet.
Got a cousin who knows these things, ‘tis a female sparrow hawk!

It’s a female Sparrowhawk according to my cousin (serious Twitcher) and Chris Packham (BBC’s Springwatch).

Yes, definitely a Sparrowhawk. It will be looking for its lunch, normally a starling or more often than not a pigeon.

Wish she’d get rid of some of the fat, noisy pigeons that decimate my bird table!

Definitely a Sparrowhawk, had one clip my ear last year, if flew right over my shoulder chasing a finch. the finch managed to get through a tiny hole on the hedge, the Sparrowhawk sat on the hedge for a few seconds before flying off again. We have a pair at school, turned the corner the other week and the female was standing on a dead Pidgeon having her breakfast. Today, first day back the football pitch is covered in feathers again, another deceased Pidgeon.
