Help with an old photograph please

Morning mate.

Did a quick google and apart from the soaking option which is a no go, got these two methods.

OPTION 1 – USE A HAIR-DRYER
Using a hair-dryer on a low heat setting, blow warm air onto the back of the photo – hold the hair-dryer about 5 inches from the photo’s surface to ensure it doesn’t overheat. This will help loosen the part of the photo adhered to the glass. Slowly & gently pull at a corner or side of the photo, pulling it back until the entire photo is removed. You may need to alternate heating and pulling to remove the whole photo effectively.

OPTION 2 – FREEZE THE PHOTO
Place the photo & glass into a freezer for about an hour. Proceed with caution, taking the photo & glass out of the freezer as cold glass is more prone to shattering. We recommend wearing gloves and protective eyewear in the event of glass breaking. Once out of the freezer, slowly and gently pull at a corner or side of the photo using either your hand or something thin like a sticker removal tool, putty knife, or credit card to aid you.

That being said, scan that photo as best you can before attempting anything.
OR as others have said, let a pro do it.

Where is the damage?

Great that you have a scan at least it is saved now, with photo edit programme you could get that to look like new

Is that scanned after the damage was repaired.

The scan is as is. The damage is on the right side from top to about 3/4 the way down. I am the one on the second row, all the way on the right. You can see part of me. The picture was taken at about 4 weeks into basic training Aug. 1982, hence our helmits had no cover on them. You got to put the cover on only after you successfully qualified with the M16A1.
I appreciate all your comments, tried some, and will now just get it reframed.
Brings back good and bad memories as some I know paid the price, Met my "stink buddy" a few years later when I was in 10th Mtn. Div., you never forget a buddy like that.
