Ford to make VW based EV's

Ford will terminate production of the Fiesta in 2023 and Focus will bow out in 2025.

The first "Medium-Size Crossover" EV from Ford will be based on the MEB platform developed by Volkswagen. It will be similar to the ID.4. Later, a larger model will use the same platform and be similar to the VW ID.5.

The article doesn't say what Ford will call the new cars.

I'm just surprised that Ford hasn't the resources to build it's own EV platform and its own take on EVs. The Mustang was highly regarded but seems a one off. Long gone is the Capri, Cortina, Granada era [Confused.png]

I also note that the article doesn't say they will be built in Cologne, but says they will be assembled in Cologne. Does this mean they will just be assembling the cars using Volkswagen supplied parts (aka rebadged Volkswagen's).

Re: Ford to make VW based EV's

I was a confirmed Ford man, easy to service cheap and plentiful spare parts available everywhere. I’ve had a mk1 Cortina a mk1 Escort a mk2 Capri a mk4 Escort a mk3 mk4 and mk5 Fiesta a Fusion and a mk5 Focus, the Capri and Focus were my favourites.

I believe VW are the largest car manufacture knocking Toyota off the top slot, Ford like Toyota are lagging behind in their EV development, so it makes sense to use VW’s expertise in that field. Although VW’s first venture into EV software a few years back left a lot to be desired.
