Wind main source of UK electricity for first time

Now that is good news for the environment. It's a start in the right direction.

In the first three months of this year a third of the country's electricity came from wind farms.

National Grid has also confirmed that April saw a record period of solar energy generation.

By 2035 the UK aims for all of its electricity to have net zero emissions.

On the news at this moment, the National Grid can`t handle any more for at least the next 5 years. [Shock.png] [Shock.png] [Shock.png]

Do you have a link to that inspector? I've searched the BBC website and Google, but can't find any reference to it. [hah.png]

Re: Wind main source of UK electricity for first time

But BBC research revealed on Thursday that billions of pounds' worth of green energy projects are stuck on hold due to delays with getting connections to the grid.

Some new solar and wind sites are waiting up to 10 to 15 years to be connected because of a lack of capacity in the electricity system.

Thanks for that steveg. That is astonishing. £198 billion in green energy investment, but it can't be connected to the grid as the system to connect them was only built for gas fired power stations at a rate of 1 or 2 a year.

I'm glad I never invested in one of those solar farm projects where you own a part of it and get discounts on your electricity bills. I'd be pushing up daisies if I was waiting for a return on my money. 15 years waiting... they have got to sort that one out.

That is basically the story, BBC1 NEWS, 1300, new solar and wind power face a 5 year delay in connecting to the National Grid due to capacity problems.

Reminds me of a notice I read while waiting at traffic lights in Hailsham on the Labour Party HQ "To save money, the light at the end of the tunnel has been temporarily turned off". [Big grin.png]
