School furniture recycle

Would anyone be able to point me in the right direction to dispose of class furniture. The head has ordered all new class furniture so in the six weeks holiday I'm swapping out 400 chairs/200 tables. I asked around all the local schools but no joy ,so I thought I would ask here first before I google, anyone know any charities that would want it. I'm on the south coast.

Re: School furniture recycle

There are companies that will remove the tables and chairs sometimes just for scrap but its worth a try.

Try these they are based in the midlands but will know of charities in other areas that can help.
We have used these for many years now and i have used them in this school and a secondary school that i worked at

The National Police Aid Charity started in 1993 when a group of police officers used their influence, networks and negotiating skills to find and deliver huge amounts of humanitarian aid to places that other NGOs couldn’t reach.

30 years later, they are now an enthusiastic and experienced group of people from all walks of life who successfully use that same name and influence to deliver development and emergency aid all over the world.

Another thought is overseas charities for third world countries particularly those that build schools etc.

Re: School furniture recycle

You might persuade some of the big charities who run furniture shops to take some. They should collect for free.
British Heart Foundation. St Michaels Hospice (Hants) or ones local to you. Good luck. You might find a scrappy who is interested?

Re: School furniture recycle

The last load of chairs we had went on Facebook (personal account). They were collected by a guy who fills containers with all sorts of stuff and sends it to Africa. He was happy and we got rid of them at no cost.

Re: School furniture recycle

We often use freecycle for furniture and if it is the old tables with metal legs there's always a willing bloke to come and remove the legs and the tops go in a skip. A Scout group had a lot of our cabinets recently.

Re: School furniture recycle

Whereabouts are you and are you a secondary?
We desperately need furniture. I think the newest chairs we have are about 20years old.

Thanks Elephant

Shame, it would have been worth hiring a van and driving down from The Lakes.

I wonder if admin could start a recycle noticeboard. I'm sure a lot of schools replenish their furniture/ equipment over the summer and have to dispose of the old stuff. It could really help out for schools like mine that have such a large defecit.
