Cracks in school house

Good morning all
( or it is for me.)
I have been a caretaker for thirty years in different locations but for the last nineteen years it's been a primary school .
I'm lucky as I consider myself a dieing breed just a caretaker not a tradesmen.
Also I live on site that's a rarity nowadays.
Anyway my question is the house on site is suffering with footing problems and has many cracks in it .
It has been looked at for years first by the council now by the academy...
I think the problem is now getting to the needs work doing stage .
Well I don't think they will spend money on the caretaker house when they could go non residential at no cost to them .
My question is can they kick me out ?
I'm sure someone on here as been here before.
Anyway it my first day back so I'm off to flush all the toilets and run a load of taps..

Not sure on the rights of school houses but you can try making some evidence of the crack problem by glue a piece of glass across the biggest gap and dating it and as time passes and the gap widens it will split the glass, you then have an idea re a time scale how much this crack is opening up, good luck.

Would it be possible to view the last building condition survey, if the house is considered as “tied accomodation” and part of the school, it should be included and mention any structural problems found.

I would have thought that your contract might give you some clue. Does it say that you are a residential caretaker? If so i believe that in order to make it non residential it would take a change to your contract of employment which would have to be consulted on with you. If you are in a Union ask them for advice, if not them maybe citizens advice might be able to help. I hope that you get the answer you need

You would be better off using a crack gauge.

Do you have pictures of the cracks?

Some are more benign than others on buildings.

The problems with the house are well known and have been documented for years ..
There now getting that bad I can't ignore them .
When it became an academy they didn't want anything to do with the house .
Yes I'm a residential caretaker on my job spec ..
In the good old days under the council it would of been sorted .
Let's see what this term brings ...lol

Plus I pay rent on the school house I know a lot pay no rent ...
