Overjoyed Toon Fan
I was at St James park tonight for the Champions League game against PSG. Fantastic result and a great atmosphere and just a wonderful night overall. Two geordie lads scored, one was Dan Burn who was a pupil at my school a few years back so nice to have that connection, me and his old maths teacher who is a friend talk about him all the time. 4-1 was a result that wasn't expected and it was just a brilliant night, not seen the like since 1997. Forgive me for my indulgence in being ecstatic about it but even after 8 years of going to St James park, i still get goosebumps on nights like this

Woo hoo I’m not really a football fan but do like a good result, especially for the Toon

I had to look that up, Toon. I see you can watch the highlights online. See if I can spot you in the crowds. Now I know why your username is Magpie. Didn't realise that, all these years I've known you

Visited St James' Park on Saturday with my beloved Burnley (seems we were a tougher game). Good ground with nice fans

I get it now, it's a soccer (football) team.
But there does the name Toon come in? Wouldn't Newcastle or something like that identify better?

I looked that up too. It was the way them up north pronounced the word 'Town'. There are those who say it was originally the word Toon that Southerners pronounced it 'Town' which became the accepted pronunciation. So it is short for Newcastle Toon. allegedlytrout39843 wrote: ↑5th Oct 2023 at 10:27am I get it now, it's a soccer (football) team.

Oh, and I am guessing, they are called Magpies cos their kit is black and white and they fly around the pitch with their arms out like birds (Magpies) - well they do when they score.
