Re: NEBOSH
What are the benefits of doing the NEBOSH course. I know it gives you some certification of being Health and Safety savy and perhaps helps going for other roles in the future but if you intend to stay in the same role and not move on are there any financial benefits?
You were only meant to dust the flipping floors off

Re: NEBOSH
When we were under LA control and for a couple of years under Academy control after i passed my Nebosh, i got an extra £7000 a year for the responsibility of being in charge of H&S. Of course when the new CEO of the academy started they gave the responsibility to the untrained BMs with oversight by someone higher up so that my extra money disappeared after the 1 year that they had to give me. Plus it meant that i didnt get to use Nebosh again except for in my own job. I used to argue with them that they weren't doing thing correctly and that was what started the downfall for me. I suppose it will depend on whether you are LA controlled and therefore following NJC rules or under the academy banner where they can do what they wantMaverick wrote: ↑21st, November 2023 at 8:35am What are the benefits of doing the NEBOSH course. From my point of view I still have 20 years of work before retirement and I'm that sort of person who needs always new challenges, it also opens new doors in case I decide to change industryMaverick wrote: ↑21st, November 2023 at 8:35am What are the benefits of doing the NEBOSH course. Re: NEBOSH
I have been caretaking in schools and colleges for thirty years and have watched the job change a lot during that time .
When I first started there was loads of training both council in house and outside organisation's..
Personally I like a bit of training keeps me on top of the job and confidence in doing it to the best of my ability.
However since the school changed to an academy some years ago there has been very little caretaker training for me ..
The BM has been on courses to cover caretaking and H and E.
I have asked for some training courses but never got any .
One of the problems I have is the academy is spread out and most are small primary schools without a caretaker so I think I maybe the only one full time in a two form school..
To me the more training the better as it gives you options if you ever wanted to move on ..
To me one of the reasons caretakers move out to other jobs is not feeling on top of the job due to lack of caretaker training and support..

Re: NEBOSH
I’ve started the job fairly recently (5 years) and in this school I’m 3 years, we do not have BM and I’m in charge for all the H&S for a 3 form (600kids) school, the Academy has a lovely head of estates but I’ve to deal also with CIF bids and I found I need training more in depth other than the usual courses, I was ready to pay from my pocket for the Nebosh but luckily the HT agreed to fund itTwodogs64 wrote: ↑21st, November 2023 at 11:03am I have been caretaking in schools and colleges for thirty years and have watched the job change a lot during that time .

Just signed my number 2 up to do this and found out that it is now even an open book exam, so technically even easier.
