Re: Do electric cars interest you

I cant afford one even if I did want one.

I am also partial to owning "modern classics" which rule me out of most ULEZ zones too.. Fine by me.

Re: Do electric cars interest you

I’ve been a petrol head for years and my last ICE car was a BMW M440D convertible, and loved it. However with work miles it was costing me about £80 a week in fuel and a significant BIK. I am now in my first ev which is the KIa EV6 gtline s and it’s only 20BHP less than the beemer but so much more torque, it flies of the line and pulls through the entire range of power with no gear changes to worry about it is so smooth. I can get about 280 miles on a full charge and due to my cheap overnight tariff as long as I only charge within the time period I.e about 50% (so I plug in most days) I spend about 2 or 3 pound a day and my BIK is almost zero, car is loaded with tech and whilst not as refined as the bmw I am a convert, if I need to longer trips I just need to plan the odd away charge.
RED ALERT.............

.....but Sir, that does mean changing the light bulb!

Not at all.
Hydrogen power on the other hand.
N=R* x Fp x Ne x Fl x Fi x Fc x (1+Nr) x Fm x L
(If you and I were in the staffroom, it would be the only even prime number.)

Come the revolution, I won't be able to afford the petrol to get there.

Not really as the infrastructure to provide charging outlets over the UK fall far short of demand, i also think they should have a noise emitting from them as blind people do not know they are coming unlike our old milk floats you could here the bottles rattling lol [Big grin.png] [Big grin.png]

Hydrogen excites me, but we're way off from this at the moment.

Honda and GM have a Hydrogen fuel cell engine finished and a usage licence for north america has been granted.

So maybe not as far off as you thought..

Just bought a 2nd hand low mileage Fiesta MHEV, when you take your foot off the throttle a small generator puts power into a 44 v battery under the drivers seat, when you accelerate some of the power is used, along with start/stop I am getting 53mpg with a turbo for power [Like.png]
Ain`t got £30,000 for an electric car so the Fiesta will do me [Thumb_up.png]

A mild hybrid is a perfect solution to those people that cover high mileages, my son is a high mileage user and has owned a hybrid since 2017. He gets on average 48 mpg for a large luxury saloon, he would love to own an EV, but the cost and range would be a major hurdle for him.

Re: Do electric cars interest you

Don't want one.
I do 90% of my own mechanical repairs to my cars (the exception is only really computer related issues [--- (The seasonal word only permitted in December) ---_angry.gif] ) - so mechanically I could work on one, but I have no idea about EV powertrains and all the extra computer gubbins that comes with one.
My newest car is 20 years old and going well so I see no need to increase my carbon footprint by buying a new car every year!
.. although the 4 liter V8 supercharged Jag does drink a bit!
The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory!
