All old Sky receivers will become obsolete in the next few months as Sky change the system channels broadcast on to DVB-S2. Many channels will become HD by default (Like Sky Mix recently did), but some third party channels will remain SD on the newer system. All DVB-S broadcasting including radio will cease in 2024.
A lot of new satellite equipment has included support for DVB-S2X which is a further development of satellite, but as far as I am aware, there is a focus on moving online rather than moving to newer satellite standards.

Re: Old Sky receivers to become obsolete
If you have a Sky HD box or newer, you'll be OK. It is only the older SD only boxes that are unable to decode the newer DVB-S2. They are offering customers a free upgrade.
