Reminder: BBC ending SD broadcasts on Satellite

Just a reminder, the BBC is ending Standard Definition (SD) broadcasts on satellite on 8th January. All BBC channels are now transmitted in High Definition (HD) and you will need a HD compatible receiver to continue watching BBC channels.

The message shown on screen is as follows:

This affects all BBC channels on 28.2E. It also affects all BBC radio channels. You will either require a new Sky box, Freesat receiver or a stand-alone receiver that is capable of decoding the newer DVB-S2 8PSK standard.

One thing that annoys me is the fact that the Sky Go app defaults to SD BBC 1/2, ITV, and Ch4/5 when you want to record a program off the Sky Go list. To get the HD versions, you have to select the HD List, which starts with the Sky movies channels, then the foreign language channels and finally the main terrestrial HD channels.

Thanks for the reminder [--- (The seasonal word only permitted in December) ---_santaclaus.gif] just checked and my Sky box version number is not affected. Thinking about it I seem to remember getting a free HD box upgrade a few years back.

It's one of the things I intend to look into and maybe cancel Sky as it has become a large chunk of change each month.

I'm not up to speed on the whole TV/Satelite/Cable thing, I really need to do some research and balance economy and availability of channels.

I cancelled Sky when I realised that a lot of the content was actually available for free. Admittedly, I'm not worried about sports or movie channels. If you go for a satellite receiver with OpenVix on it, you can get all the freesat channels plus some of the sky channels that are free to view (aka not encrypted).

Thanks for the info, I’ve only got the movie channels and I suppose the rest of the Sky channels. I’ve also noticed that films and other content are rotated regularly so I don’t watch many of them, didn't realise most of them are free?
I tend to watch science and history documentaries, comedies or classic films, some even in black and white [--- (The seasonal word only permitted in December) ---_grin.gif]
