Gate Duty and FUN FACT FRIDAY
I do gate duty in the morning on fridays and since the new year, the year 6 kids and i have introduced 'FUN FACT FRIDAY'.... essentially we greet each other in the mornings with a fun. Had some great ones given to me tbf-the kids love it and come up with some quite interesting stuff.
SO.......... give me you favourite random fact which i can use in an upcoming week. My one for today was this....
Did you know that when you close your eyes the colour you see actually has a name. It isnt black or dark or anything of that ilk..... Its formal name is EIGENGRUAU which is like an off black or very dark grey..... sometimes known as Braingrey...... go figure......
anywhoooo lets have your FUN FACTS FOR FRIDAY peeps
ROLL ON THE WEEKEND

Re: Gate Duty and FUN FACT FRIDAY
During the entire run of commercial service of the Concord, the RAF had no Aircraft capable of keeping pace with the Concord over the distance it flew in commercial service. Let that one sink in a bit...
They had some aircraft that could keep pace but only over a short distance using full afterburner. (Lightning and Tornado)

Absolutely insane. What a piece of kit it was. I wonder when the next Mach 2 capable airliner will come along.Vera wrote: ↑12th Jan 2024 at 10:51am Just to illustrate the point look at the production year and mach number in supercruire below then look at the bottom one

Re: Gate Duty and FUN FACT FRIDAY
The standard gauge of a railway is 4 foot 8 and a half inches, the reason for that is it was the standard width of horse drawn wagons.
The reason wagons were that width is because the used to travel in the ruts created by Roman wagons, the reason Roman wagons were that width is because it was approximately the width of two horses pulling the wagon.
So trains travel on a track whose width was decided 2 thousand years ago by the Romans

The original marathon was set at 40 kilometers. However it was shortened to 24 miles 385 yards for the 1908 Olympics so that it could start on the lawn of Windsor castle and finish in front of the Royal box in the Olympic stadium. It has stayed that distance ever since.
