Panorama program " crumbling schools"

Crumbling schools programme by panorama well worth a watch .
It's amazing what you get used to as school staff ..leaks , floods and under spending on repairs..
After a bit unfortunately you don't see it and it becomes the norm..
Having been a caretaker for many years in different schools and collages I remember when maintenance was done and money was available ..
Sadly not so much now .
It's an interesting programme well worth a watch .

I watched it, very interesting and yes I found parts of it strangely familiar.

I agree when you have to accommodate the problems of the building into your daily work life, it becomes the norm and you just get on with it.

Re: Panorama program " crumbling schools"

I recall that back in the 80s through to the late 90s we would receive a memo from the LEA in November telling us that the maintenance budget was nearly exhausted & that only emergency repairs would get done until April. Then Blair became PM on the pledge of refurbishing school buildings. For the first 18 months it was raining money. Critall windows were ripped out to be replaced with double glazed units, toilets were refurbed. I thought that Blair really meant it when he talked about "Education, education, education". Of course it could never last. The task was started but never finished. I do not expect to see it finished in my lifetime.

Re: Panorama program " crumbling schools"

Just been googling and there are 24,000 state schools in England. The government's 10 year school building programme aims to build 50 per year (alhough it looks more like 40. ) Based on he 50 per year it would require each school to last 480 years to work!
