My Narrowboat build
HI All,
As part of our longer term retirement plans, my wife and I are looking to travel the canal and river network in the UK.
To this end we sold our canal cruiser last summer (plastic boat) and committed to building our own narrowboat. It will be for holidays initially and then for us to live aboard and travel into retirement.
It took a long while to find just the right builder to build the steel shell, But we ended up with a fantastic builder with a very high quality standard and a moderate price (Read not cheap, here). It will be a 47 foot Tug style narrowboat and she will be named "Tatton".
The Builder is called X R and D Boatbuilders from Newark in Nottinghamshire, Check out their website to see what they do. https://www.xrandd.co.uk/
They have now started and the steel is due to be finished around the beginning of May.
It will then go to a boatyard hard standing where the rest of the fitout is up to us.
If you would like to follow along and check in on progress then we have a Facebook page called "Tatton Tug", Say hi if you want to, I'm happy to talk about the boat to those that are interested. https://www.facebook.com/tatton.tug?com ... 3NjA4OTEy
Thank you.

Re: My Narrowboat build
I love watching Canal Boat Diaries on Yesterday. It's not for the faint hearted is it? He sure gets into some scrapes on the 'Naughty Lass'. But what a way to travel. I'd like to travel into the heart of London by canal boat. No congestion charges or OLEZ. Just peace and quiet with the sound of the motor popping away.

Sounds like an idyllic lifestyle in retirement

I doubt it but I bet solar panels and leisure storage batteries will be involved

Hats off to you. I’m sure many of us would love to live with a more free and nomadic lifestyle but convention keeps us in our boxes. Enjoy!
