What to do with old school books?

Been asked (again) to 'dispose' of old books no longer used in school. I have previously taken some to local charity shops. However many of this batch are the same title and are reading or 'series' books and there are lots of them.
Has anyone used any of the groups who send used books to Africa. Any recommendations ...please. TIA.

Unless they are in particularly great condition, we just put them in the recycle bin.

We either put them in the recycling or a skip.

One thing to be mindful of is if the books are out of date - we had it with some old geography books that had the countries wrong. Bit harsh to send that type off so in the recycling they went!

Re: What to do with old school books?

We tried donating books and furniture to various outside projects who re-distributed them, but sadly as they were mostly staffed by volunteers’ collection of the items was a problem. We stored tables and chairs originally for around a week that turned into 2 months before they were collected. With many phone calls emails and time wasted chasing up collection into the bargain. I got the raw end of the process from all sides as I was the one that suggested donating rather than skipping or dumping the stuff.

We put the books out for sale to the parents, any contributions go into a honesty pot. We are doing our second sale this week, last time we raised about £70.

When I was in secondary we used to give away text books to other local schools. It was interesting how we managed to afford to buy hundreds of text books (at £18+ each) every couple of years for some subjects because they kept changing exam boards to whichever was the easiest while other schools were grateful for any they could get hold of as they had ones dating back to the 1980s.
