Re: Are we now a luxury?
Headteacher of the primary I was at £85000. BM 350000. Cheapest teacher £35000. When I left they reduced my post from site manager to caretaker drop of wages for new person to minimum wage. Good saving. Now they have yet again no caretaker and don't intend advertising for one.
They have a security firm opening and closing and are employing another cleaner to do the cleaning the caretaker did. I've been told the annual cost is more than what the paid the caretaker. Now that makes sense.

Excellent thread ,
Really interesting.
Things will only get worse after the next annual pay rise and falling critter numbers .

If you look at the school cleaners there on minimum wage now it's gone up..
TAs pay is shocking as there job has changed beyond belief..
Schools can't fill them jobs as no one wants them..

Doesn’t seem to be much change between then and now.thecaretaker wrote: ↑30th Apr 2024 at 7:39pm 11th July 2003

Because the FLW has now gone up to £12ph and my local authority adopts this it means that a cleaner is now on the same as a grade 3 and only marginally less than a grade 4.

Re: Are we now a luxury?
I've just googled to find out what the £13,840 average caretaker salary (in July 2003) translates to now (by using the Bank of England inflation calculator). It is £24,554.67.thecaretaker wrote: ↑30th Apr 2024 at 7:39pm 11th July 2003
